Welcome to Thames Rail, here I will give you an introduction to the site and what I aim to do with it. This website is designed as a place for me to display my railway photographs, the plan is for the site to take the form of a rail photo-diary or we(blog).
You can follow my rail photo shoots as I go out and about in Oxfordshire and sometimes further afield. I will also be trying to show you some of the best photo locations within Oxfordhsire. I am based in Southern Oxfordshire. I mainly concentate on photgraphing freight movements and also passenger workings if there are interesting workings about. I started out with my first SLR an Olympus OM20 which got me going in rail photography, after developing a fault I upgraded to the Olympus OM2000 and a small selection of lenses and I also switched to slide film around this time shooting on mainly Fuji 100ASA. I then went digital in September 2003 with a Canon 10D and currently I use a Canon 5D DSLR with EOS lenses.
Didcot is lucky enough to play host to a small EWS diesel depot which ensures there is usually something of interest always going on. EWS and Freightliner pass through Didcot on a daily basis with GBRF making the occasional appearance. Sadly the loco hauled trains that used to be a daily occurance at Didcot is no more as Virgin has replaced them with Virgin Voyager DMUs. Please explore the site and enjoy your stay.
