Just a brief update today, I had recieved gen that a couple of charter trains were being run on behalf of the Rugy fans enroute to the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley where Warrington would be playing Huddersfield. The first of these workings was routed via Oxford and the GWML to Euston which was my target while the second one took the Chiltern line direct to Wembley.

A nice bright sunny start to the day made it an easy choice to head over to Oxford to bag a shot of the charter. While waiting 66575 appeared on the 4O14 Birch Coppice – Southampton just a few minutes infront of 67008 running bang on time with 1Z69 Warrington Bank Quay – Euston.

I think it’s time that we bumped Champion off the front page, although a fine machine that she is, I thought it was time to post something new. A combination of poor weather and lack of anything interesting to tempt me out has meant a long gap between postings, today however both combined! A glorious day and word that Freightliner were running a 6Z60 Bow Olympic – Newton Abbott additional routed via the GWML.

In the past couple of weeks it has been announced the the GWML will be electrified and while I’m sure this excellent news in a business, economical and environmental sense, personally for me this is terrible news! :-( As a rail enthusiast all my favourite locations especially in the Vale of White Horse area are going to be destroyed with the overhead catenary and wires, a sad day when it happens! Hence, this means I need to take every opportunity I get now, like today’s excursion to phot 66604 ambling 6Z60 through the Vale at one of my favourite locations, Shrivenham. :-)
