It was an early start to make the ‘Western Scot’ as I had to leave home at 03:00 to make the 05:10 start from Tame Bridge Parkway and it was rather odd seeing Edinburgh listed on the display at Tame Bridge. A decent run up the WCML to Carlisle followed with GPS showing mid 90s between Stafford and Crewe. We made a brief stop for a crew change at Newcastle and then we again blasted northwards this time up the ECML with a brief pause for a 91 to overtake and we then made history as a Western crossed the Royal Border bridge into Scotland and into the Capital Edinburgh! :)

We had 3 1/2 hour pause in Edinburgh so a trip around the city centre on an open topper was a rather nice way to pass some time. We set off homewards via the Glasgow suburbs with plenty of photographers out to record the moment of a Western on scottish soil. We again stopped for a brief crew change at Coatbridge and then we took off! We were flying and ran non stop from Motherwell to Carlisle covering the 89 miles in 74 minutes arriving 20 minutes early! An excellent day out with plenty of top Wizzo thrash especially on the return journey! :D

It has been a long time since my last update when I went out to phot the diverted mail train through the Thames Valley. One of my favourite locos features in todays update, ‘Western Champion’. D1015 is going to make the first Western appearance in Scotland on Saturday 3rd May when it works from Birmingham – Edinburgh! To prepare for the trip Champion was due to take the ECS from Old Oak Common – Bescot on the Friday.

I decided I wasn’t going to go to far to see the ECS as I will be seeing plenty of her on Saturday when I travel behind her to Scotland myself. I went for my local station of Radley and running a couple of minutes early I heard a toot in the distance and knew it was Champion, she came belting through Radley with plenty of blasts on the horn, looking forward to Saturday! :D
