I’m late again with this update from last week and I have two shots for you today. As new electric multiple units come on stream in the old southern region then the old ones are sent for storage or scrapping. A large number have been sent to Caerwent in Wales and motive power normally been EWS class 66s with the odd class 37. Today the power was to be provided by GBRF 66709. We don’t get many 66/7s around these parts and as 66709 is a one off livery to boot I couldn’t pass up this oppurtunity.

The weather was also playing ball with a beautiful sunny day, I was on my way out to Denchworth for the working but on the way I rembered the shot out near Grove so I changed my plans and headed there. Even with a 20 minute walk I had plenty of time to get there. Whilst waiting for the scrappers 66215 headed out of Didcot with an empty MGR working.

I only had to wait another 10 minutes for 66709 to turn up, it was set for the loop so it just cruised past me enabling me to get my first 66/7 photo around these parts!
