It has been pretty miserable all of the past week but today the sun was back to play. You may remember a few weeks ago I went out to photograph the Southend – Cardiff football specials at Denchworth. I had a problem with the shot of the 67 special I took with the 24-70 lens. I thought it was user error but I continued to note the pictures were coming out bad. I carried out some tests and decided to send it in for repair as it was an expensive paperweight as it was. While it was in for repair I decided to purchase a cheap 50mm lens for cover but found out no one had one in stock. In fact all the April photos were taken with the 135mm lens which makes shot choice somewhat limiting. I was beginning to wonder if the lens would come back from repair before the 50mm turned up but finally the 50mm turned up this week.

I thought it would be a good idea to go out and test the lens so I head off to Didcot to see what was stabled up. As I got on the platform the Appleford waste train pulled in with 60071 in charge. This working goes to Appleford to dump its train and pick up an empty set and returns about an hour later. I quickly did some shots of the stabled locos and then head off down the line to Moreton cutting. Bang on one hour later the 60 appeared under the bridge on the empty return working. I’d say the lens seems plenty adequate for the time I need it for and a bit of deja vous from my first digital shot!
